Xbox has put a price on cloud playtime: $3.99 for 10 hours
Cloud playtime packs arrive on Game Pass in November. Monthly limits land at 5, 10 and 15 hours depending on tier.
Xbox has revealed pricing for the cloud gaming limits coming to Game Pass. They're called cloud playtime packs, and launch pricing is:
| Pack | Price |
|---|---|
| 10 hours | $3.99 |
| 25 hours | $7.99 |
| 50 hours | $11.99 |
The packs give you ad-free cloud gaming with shorter wait times and high-quality streaming. Playtime doesn't expire until it's used.
Xbox Insiders without a Game Pass subscription can preview the pricing now, ahead of a November rollout. They can also try the ad-supported game streaming Xbox began testing earlier this year.
The limits underneath
Announced last month and now priced, the included monthly allowances are:
- Game Pass Essential — 5 hours
- Premium — 10 hours
- Ultimate — 15 hours
Xbox's stated reasoning is straightforward about the tradeoff:
The cost of providing cloud gaming grows as more people use it and play for longer. Moving to monthly limits allows us to keep offering the service while continuing to invest in its reliability and performance. We understand that for some players the practical result is a higher cost.
Why it's a bigger story than a price list
Cloud gaming has spent a decade being sold as the future, and this is what the economics look like when you actually meter it: hours, not a subscription. Fifteen hours a month on Ultimate is roughly half an hour a day — fine for dipping in, tight for finishing anything.
It also lands days after reports that Xbox is planning an overhaul of Game Pass, potentially letting players pick add-ons for console-only games, cloud gaming and multiplayer in a tiered structure — and amid reports of Project Helix, a next-gen machine said to be targeting late 2028 at $1,200–$1,800.
That's the shape of the bet: hardware gets more expensive, so the subscription gets more granular. Whether players read that as flexibility or as a bill broken into smaller pieces depends entirely on how often they actually stream.
